Book Info

Book info sounds boring. What is it?

It’s the key to selling your book, containing the answer to every question you will be asked. Let’s see what’s in it, how it’s made and how to use it.

Librarians call is “metadata,” data about your book. They use it to catalogue your book.

Booksellers use it to selve your book, and put it in the right place on their web site.

You will use it sell your book, answering questions from the press, from potential buyers, readers, and sales outlets.

We first saw the idea of a book info document, with all your metadata in one place, in the book, Indy Publishing Without Pulling Your Hair Out, by Richard Gartee. Recommended.

What's in it?

Your book info includes:

  1. Title
  2. Author(s)
  3. Page count
  4. Library of Congress Control Number
  5. Date of Publication
  6. Photo credits
  7. ISBN and Price for each format (paperback, hardcover, EPUB, audiobook
  8. The publisher name and EIN (us!)
  9. BISAC Subject headings
  10. Audience
  11. 20 word description
  12. 25 word description
  13. 200 word description
  14. Keywords
  15. Author bio
  16. Quotes from readers

Aren’t those things you want to know? And aren’t you likely to forget? That’s book info.

How is it made?

TNHY creates book info for you as part of our process, and delivers the complete book info to you.

We will ask you for some of the info (for example, the title of your book), and we will collect some of the info automtically as a result of the publication process (for example, the page count).

We will keep track of all of it and deliver it to you at the end of the process.

What do I do with it?

Keep it with you at all times. Seriously, you are selling your book 24×7. You never know when you will get an email, a social media post, a phone call requesting information about your book.  You shouldn’t have to say “I’ll get back to you,” or spend time looking it up.

Keep a copy someplace safe. Really safe. Like a safe deposit box. As part of the TNHY publication process, we send you a thumb drive or SD card containing your book and your book info. Keep it safe!
